To provide opportunities for young American women to earn financial assistance in the form of monetary scholarship awards to trade schools, colleges and universities as a means of achieving educational goals; to maintain a system of competition to find Miss America; to encourage participation in this program to enhance career opportunities through coaching of talents, physical fitness and communication skills; to produce positive role models representative of the contemporary American woman; to utilize the Miss America name to generally promote those issues of concern to the American woman: to encourage and promote the role of women in all aspects of our society; to encourage the spirit of good will, volunteerism, mentoring and community service with all of our candidates, committee members, and the general public.

WHAT WE DO

We produce the Miss Los Angeles County and the Miss Culver City Competition as well as the Miss Los Angeles County’s Teen and the Miss Culver City’s Teen Competition as the annual preliminaries representing Los Angeles County and Culver City to the Miss California Competition in the Miss America system.  We recruit candidates from the golden State of California, help them prepare, rehearse, coach Miss Los Angeles, Miss Culver City, Miss Los Angeles County’s Teen, and Miss Culver City’s Teen for the Miss California Competition. Funds raised by this committee through the patronage of the local business community are awarded in educational scholarships and financial assistance to women in need over and above pageant expenses.  We award thousands of dollars as a part of over 30 million dollars of scholarship assistance awarded annually by the Miss America Organization.

A BRIEF HISTORY

Miss America was inaugurated in 1921 as a beauty pageant in Atlantic City.  Miss Los Angeles was founded in 1932. The scholarship foundation was established in 1945 and continues as our primary reason for being. Communications, volunteers and community service have become an integral part of the Miss America program in recent years to reflect the values of the contemporary women leaders of America.
